On April 11, 2011, Activision and CEO Bobby Kotick announced the release of a second content pack for its record-breaking title Call of Duty: Black Ops game, entitled Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation, which is due to be released on May 3rd on Xbox LIVE.
Black Ops Escalation is preceded by Activision's first content pack called Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike, released in February. First Strike broke Xbox LIVE download records with over 1.4 million downloads in the first 24 hours. The Escalation content pack will include four new multiplayer maps, as well as a new Zombies experience dubbed Call of the Dead.
With Xbox LIVE download records like that of First Strike, this second content pack Escalation is sure to create some buzz among Call of Duty enthusiasts.
Head of development for Treyarch, Mark Lamia, has stated, "In crafting the Escalation multiplayer maps - Zoo, Convoy, Hotel and Stockpile - the group developed them to be distinct experiences in their own right, giving gamers the variety they crave in both setting and gameplay.
Developed by Treyarch, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Call of Duty: Black Ops was released in November of 2010, the title shattered entertainment as well as gaming records by selling 7 million copies in the first 24 hours. Today, Call of Duty: Black Ops has gone over $1 billion in total sales, making it the best selling videogame ever, with millions of users on Xbox LIVE, logging over 2 billion hours played.
